We're Still Here

Blueberry is still very much alive.  She's 13 now but hides her age well, other than not being into hiking anymore (she prefers the park, even in winter).

Pistachio is doing well.  He is a bit crankier this year so I don't have any good pictures of him.  He dug a back entrance to his burrow which I filled in twice and he removed the dirt three times.  I guess you could say we are having a difference of opinion on how many openings he should be allowed.  Who would have thunk an adult would get in an argument with a desert tortoise???  Right now I am allowing the second entrance until the monsoon rains come, then I will have to cover it back up for his own good so he doesn't drown.  Tough love.

There is a fire raging to the east of us - sometimes when the wind shifts we can smell it and see the smoke.  Not a threat to our area or the immediate surrounding areas - but it is devastating a good chunk of our Superstition wilderness area.  Hopefully the wildlife in the area are making it to safer ground.  I especially worry about the wild desert tortoises.

I hope all of you are doing well and are having a great summer!  We have already had 3 days of heat warnings but right now it's only in the low 100s so we are grateful those really hot days are over, at least for now.

  2. We are so happy to hear from you again! It's great to see Blueberry and hear about good old Pistachio. (Have you ever seen the comic strip "Little Dog Lost?" It features a tortoise who's a bit on the grouchy side. Find it on GoComics.com) Hope to hear more from you soon!

    1. That fire is still raging. It’s caused some evacuations in one area. We have not had one like this in our area for as long as I can remember.

  5. Happy life is going reasonably well with you! Happy Teenage Years to Blueberry! I didn't realize she was that old. Time sure passes so quickly, esp. in a dog's life.

  6. I'm so happy to see you, Blueberry! Boca doesn't like hiking either, but then, she never did. It would figure that my socially easier dog prefers to stay home. Pistachio is the most awesome name for a tortoise!

    1. I miss hiking with her but I know she loves the walks in the park more so that’s where we go. :)

  7. Hi Blueberry, Pistachio and your Human. I saw your name over on Bella, Dui and Roxy's blog. Had to stop by. OMDs you don't look a day over 5...your lovely black and white furs are nicely mingled and thus
    no gray nose.
My sweet precious Diva Madi passed on September 13, 2018. She was 16 1/2. Had struggled with kidney disease the last year of her life. We had that managed her itty bitty kitty heart gave out. I have such fond memories of her. She truly lived each moment of her life in high gear...I have a memorial post for her on my menu bar under my header.
My blog address is still the same I changed the to blog name to My Mind's Eye and she is always in my headers watching over me.
She makes surprise appearances as do my grand kitties Mia and Frisco and my friend's kitty Kat.
    Hugs
    Cecilia

  8. I am so glad that Blueberry is doing so well. She is beauty - and still looks like a puppy! It's wonderful that you updated all of us on her and on Pistachio. Pistachio sounds like an opinionated tortoise! I didn't even know that tortoise's could have opinions ;) I hope that the fire is out soon. I, too, worry about the wildlife...
